Some allies have bludged on the US for decades and it is high time that this stopped.
It is in all allies long term interests that the US is stronger than China and Russia, even if it means short term pain.
The No 1 priority is to to keep China from stealing technology and manipulating trade to increase its economic and military might, which it clearly intends to use against nations in our sphere.
China keeps increasing its holdings in Australia and one day a serious dispute will arise and, if China has sufficient military power, it mayl use that as an excuse to invade,
