Worth reposting, hopefully more readable, not the first time the locals have called out the politicians:

    Enough of Lynas politics
KUANTAN Aug 8 - Residents around the Gebeng area have called for the issue of rare earth processing plant, Lynas Malaysia Sdn Bhd (Lynas) to be terminated and no longer be used as political capital.

They said they were fed up with the issue as a long-term political capital but as locals, they saw the development of the Australian-origin factory.
Tok Ampat Sungai Snake, Shamsul Azlin Abdul Wahid, 48, said Lynas, which operates under the supervision of various law and order agencies, was just like any other factory operating in the Gebeng industrial area.

"At first, we received a lot of news about Lynas, but we did our best to listen to information from Lynas who took the initiative to meet the villagers since they had not been operating.
“They explained our concerns and heard our concerns. They even asked for our views several times. Although often politicized, they still come to this day to find out about our safety as a resident, ”he said.
Shamsul Azlin said they also took the opportunity to hear information from various experts each time such meetings were held.
He was speaking to reporters when met at the Prime Minister's Ceremony and Prayer at Sultan Ahmad Shah 1 State Mosque here yesterday, attended by thousands of pilgrims.
He said like many other factories, the existence of Lynas brought about socioeconomic benefits in the area, and many villagers also got jobs there, including some who were engineers.
“Lynas are also very helpful in their social corporate responsibilities in our village such as providing early childhood education and help with the holidays.
"There was no doubt at first that there was doubt in hearing the news, but after many years of Lynas operation, we saw what was being said. The factory is just like any other factory, "he said.
Shamsul Azlin added that so far, there has been no rumor about the health of the people affected by the radiation from the plant, and considering that the fact that the plant is so hazardous, it is likely that the first workers will be affected.
Meanwhile, Tok Ampat Balok, Mansor Mokhtar, said Lynas' claim to harm the environment was also untrue as residents in Balok, who were mostly fishermen, did not see the incident.
"We do not see the river changing colors due to water from Lynas or hearing stories of dead fish due to radiation ... but it is difficult for us to accept that our well-regulated plant disposes of unsafe sewage at will, causing environmental problems," he said.
Mansor said he was also uncomfortable when the issue went on for too long, including claiming someone had posted comments on social media claiming they were residents of the Balok affected by Lynas.
However, he does not recognize the individual who made the comment and the average person in question, admits he was not comfortable doing so.
