I think the idea is that the actual energy source is electricity (presumably from a clean source) and H2 is just used for energy storage and transport. Similar idea to electric cars but with better energy density than batteries.
Not that I'm a big supporter of H2 cars, what with the infrastructure requirements. Why not just use the existing electricity grid and work on better batteries?
