I would say that world wide market weakness is far more likely the cause of the current pullback in PET - not manipulation.
Any potential economic downturn is probably going to have much less impact to the growth or earnings of a company like this with governments as its customers but the sp will still swing with the market moods regardless. Good news can offset that and there is certainly the potential for a big move higher against the market if the news is good enough.
