"The Democrats in the US have forever put the office of President in the garbage bin and that badge of office will never again have any respect"

But hang on, Trump's a Republican... he's the one responsible for trashing the respect and reputation of the oval office? He's been called out by both Democrats and Republicans throughout his reign for acting non-presidential.

Back on topic and having worked in construction for ages, the training structure isn't necessarily the root cause, but the bad habits passed from old hands to new and then exacerbated under perceived time constraints is a big issue. Where there aren't time constraints, the pursuit of maximising profit either through minimising materials or time spent is a big at fault problem too.

I personally see tougher and more frequent oversight as well as an effective ombudsman as key to changing practices. Imagine if a homeowner was able to complain to an ombudsman which resulted in an independent inspection and then an order for redress? You wouldn't cut corners too many times if you then legally had to declare the number of times you were ordered to repair shoddy work!
