ty bootleg. correction to my previous post - I was meant to say I believe the warburton COULD (not will) be gas prone, not oil prone.
Monday's announcement will be interesting either way it goes.
A few notes as the first well is not over just yet;
- The tirrawarra has been proven elsewhere, and from records, 'nearby colson 1 when drilled from 2100-2290m demonstrated "potential for moveable hydrocarbons'
- There are also notes that 'most of the organic matter in the Pedirka Basin below depths of about 2000 m are well within the oil generation window, and probably are near, or at peak oil generation'
- 'Permo–Carboniferous sediments in the south east quadrant of the Pedirka are commonly over 300 m thick, at depths exceeding 2000 m.'
- If oil is there, porosity/permeability is obviously the key to flow rates. Theres alot of conflicting data on the pedirkas porosity ranging from 7-15% and even 25% in further wells.
Now as for any anticline such as blamore, if the oil is the feature of an anticline is that the the low density petroleum migrates upwards to the higher parts until it reaches an impermeable layer - it is possible that the oils generated below 2000 m have migrated up to the tirrawarra level. Sandstone, limestone or salt (among other stratum) for example can be efficient seals.
The coal intersection wasnt bad, once again adding to previous data the the CBM potential here is quite significant. The previous intersection in an older well was 60m, above blamore - 52m. That's pretty significant however its still up to the composition of the coal.
Anyway, regardless of what happens with Blamore, we still have 3 CBM and Simpson this year and, more than likely next year Mt Kitty and Ooraminna without forgetting about Guinevere (1000 mmbls), Madigan (140mmbls) et al nearby to play with.
The positive about blamore itself (if in the case it is unsuccessful) is that it will give the team a much better idea of the stratigraphy of the Pedirka in this region and, will add to the success chance in future wells - keep in mind there isn't much known about the pedirka!
