A common misconception about BCA is that there's no room for alternative solutions under the code. This is not true. There are two pathways for a building design to meet those requirements – the use of a Performance Solutions or a Deemed-to- Satisfy Solution. Generally speaking, for a Class 1 and Class 10 building a Performance Solution is the compliance pathway used when a new or innovative material or form of construction is used and is not prescribed in the Deemed-to-Satisfy Provisions or the design seeks to vary the construction methods offered by the Deemed-to-Satisfy Provisions.

I hear these sort of comments often from builders."I've been doing it this way for 30 years, why are you complicating things", and even to the extent that they start questioning engineers advise.
Okay since you want an example from my personal experience here it is. Reverse brick veneer, ask your run of the mill home builders out there, they will find the concept very foreign and will be hesitant to take on the job and even when they do, they will keep complaining about it. I still get annoyed about amount of whinging I had to deal with when we had our family home built 5 years ago!
