Don't forget manganese, its the most profitable and S32 has the cheapest production costs as well as some of the largest deposits.
I admit that I'm an OMH shareholder but a takeover of OMH would place S32 in an even stronger position in the manganese production chain. I believe that S32 has no option but to close down TEMCO in Tasmania and the South African smelters as they're no longer competitive. Its only going to get worse.
It won't be long before OM Sarawak announces it Phase 2 of the smelter expansion. The new sinter plant in Sarawak is about to start up in September further reducing Mn alloy production costs.
OM Sarawak already produces the same amount of Mn alloys as Temco and South Africa combined.
OM Sarawak is only utilising 6 furnaces to produce 250,000 tonnes. The other 10 furnaces produce FeSi.
S32 could takeover OMH and use all the furnaces to produce FeMn and Si Mn from the Groote Eylandt mine. The shipping cost would be reduced too and S32 could control the world production of Mn alloys.
The worlds cheapest Mn ore and the worlds cheapest electricity in Asia on the main shipping route, its a recipe for complete control.
Unfortunately all the Black Women now managing S32 mightn't think of it.
