This is not always a good thing.
It showed his confidence in the company, but also showed he has very poor risk management. Looks like a gamble to me, now that his assets also shrank by more than 50%.
If he can’t manage the risk of his own money, it would be questionable whether he can manage a company’s risk well.
We have seen too many over ambitious, over confident management teams in this sector.
