Yes, life is complex and challenging. Nothing worthwhile is ever easy. Enjoying life sober is definitely best IMHO. Mental anguish is rarely helped by drugging up. But always remember that individual free choice is a most powerful force, and we'd be very smart to always allow for it. My best wishes to all in your own personal endeavours. Oh, I must say that I have always enjoyed the teachings of Jesus. Not so much those of Muhammed. Still, religion is not for me. It's wonderful for my wife however! The offspring can make their own choices, and have done very well for themselves. I can die a happy man.
