The core function of the DST is surely stabilising Toolcenterpoints in conditions where outer influences like wind cannot be compensated by the motion controller itself, because the sensing feedback for the conrol loop is not given. With the DST the laser sensing is the feedback for closing the control loop. In surgery you would not need this feedback, because the position of the Toolcenterpoint of a robot (the scalpel for example) is always given due to the neglectable outer influences in the surgery room (as long as you asume, that there is no strong wind in the operation room )
