The crushing and milling plant always add Fe to the ore as the steel mill balls wear out, piping is eroded, that happens in all mines processing rock. This add Fe content to the naturally occurring in the spodumene ore, and hence your shippings will have a Fe content higher than the ore mined.
It seems that this Fe, reduce the efficiency of the concentration process, reducing recovery rates of spodumene.
I read also that Fe content reduce the Lithium extraction efficiency from the converter as it produce clinkers in the calcinator.
The magnetic separators that are currently been added will remove most of this added Fe ( not the Fe compounds naturally present in the ore ).
