On the contrary S - I think most of us thought that way until recent events. What these events show is that certain groups have been working assiduously towards an alternative - no doubt taking into account likely future events. The problem, I think, is that no one actually trusts USD (my trust is approaching zero actually) and that IS the problem. Given its pre-eminence the question really is "what the hell do we do now?" I think you will find an alternative emerging but it may take some time to play out. BTW, when we have problems you will see a stronger USD because they are moving to safety, but that is in the short-term.
