thank you I have been saying for a few years that with geared drive and DC output that PMG had no advantages in reliability. It was only that shift to DC and PMG occured at same time and the reliability improvement had nothing to Do with PMG just shift to DC. Not saying which is best just rliability is not an issue. Gears allow slow blad speed and high generator speed an advantage to both. Shifting transmision to maintain a fixed frequency out put is a failure waiting to happen.
