During my working career, I have seen a few (3) CFOs who decided to step down volunteeringly, due to real personal reasons.
But I have say, it is generally a combination of work pressure and personal choice (not forced though). One of them actually liked it, because he's got the same pay, with less responsibilities.
Unsure about Craig's situation. I don't want to speculate.
