The only thing ruining this once great country is the whining and blame shifting a lot of people are engaging in, instead of taking personal responsibility for their own situation. People want instant gratification, the house they can't afford, the new car every 3 years, no wonder they struggle. Financial illiteracy.

Also, why are you begrudging a spouse their right to career fulfillment and to secure their own personal financial future? Were you happier in the old days where the wife was trapped in the marriage because she had no individual financial security?

As you addressed that to me squid my reply would be that I did OK too and only ever paid rent for a few years of my life in my youth.
But unlike you I don't believe the opportunities we took are available to everyone. In theory they are but....insert any number of reasons for why they are not.
As to the spouse I am not begrudging them anything and I don't quite get where you are coming from on that.
