I did this, and it has been a relief of sorts.
The initial money I put in was earmarked for a project, so now I have sold and it's in the bank waiting for that.
Each day it goes up I sigh a little for what the half that I took out could've made that day, but I'm also happy that I'm still gaining on the other half.
On the flip side when it goes down, I've locked in profits.
Had I not had it earmarked for the project I think I would have left it in.
But I literally only own APT, so I wouldn't call it a portfolio, or balanced. I took a big punt, and it is paying off. Now that I have my capital in the bank I am much more comfortable.
Ask me in 5 years if I regret selling half, and I'm sure I'll say yes, but it was initially only supposed to in there for a year for a slight gain.
But I got half out at 107% gain...
It's a tough one...
