Australian researchers have come up with a technique to diagnose breast cancer without even going near the breast. Breast cancer causes subtle changes in hair structure, which can be detected through analysing X-ray images of the hair. A recent trial had about 75% accuracy, with research underway to boost precision. Sydney-based Fermiscan says the test will be commercially available by the end of the year, with hopes it will one day replace the mammogram.
