Always check what is on your credit card statement.
It is a total and utter pain in the neck to cancel your card. I had a charge recently for a local restaurant that I hadn't been to for many months (once only place - food was bad), and it has taken months to get it sorted out. It turned out it was a phone order. Did they pick up the food and not check a card or was it a home delivery (and not to my house)? Not my problem now.
If you have automatic charges that go on to your card (phone bills etc) make sure you let them know so you don't get any reversal charges.
Good luck.
ps. are you sure it wasn't the black cat?
