The Dad has a personal problem with Greenies, and also doesn't like kids taking time off school to protest, so he pulls his kid out of school as a protest.
I feel sorry for the kid, the Dad obviously has some issues, and is inadvertently instilling them on the kid.
If the Dad had a problem with the schools curriculum, he should have taken it up with the school directly, making a spectacle of his kid on TV isn't in the best interests of the kid.

Statement from NSW Department of Education
Bilambil Public School Year 3 and 4 (Stage 2) students have studied the theme of change through diverse topics in three designated Stage 2 curriculum areas.
The curriculum explores change through science, geography and English.
The students can choose to study various aspects within these curriculum areas, this year they explored plastic pollution and possible remedies, technological change, changes in art, and the Orange Sky Laundry service for the homeless.
The department's controversial issues in schools policy reinforces that studying controversial issues is acceptable for educational purposes consistent with the delivery of curriculum and provision of school programs and activities.
Schools are places to learn, exchange ideas and be challenged. Students are given the tools to assess information and issues impacting society.
