@Jack1960...wise words ! no I am not in despair, more of frustration at the persistent and unsuccessful practices of JB over what seems to be ages, thoroughly convinced of his “correctness” in his investment style over many years without any proof that it works !
I guess that I always believed that LICs were a case of buy and hold, especially if the manager had skin in the game. It’s a pity that one can invest in Something like CSL and hold, hold, hold,.... but with many LICs that are supposed to be more immune to price fluctuations because of their spread of investments, end up being more volatile than a single stock.
I have held ALF for absolute ages and always thought after the fall after their change of investment strategy, that commonsense and better results wer always “just around the corner”, but with JB at the helm, it was more akin to trying to turn around an ocean liner, rather than a speedboat, and only of JB wanted to take a different course.
I don’t know what form the 20% buyback will take, but I will be happy to be close to the front of the queue with my hand out, to lighten my, and my wife’s holding in ALF. If I never saw JB or his photo again, I wouldn’t lose any sleep !
