A lot of factors need to come together any one of which can cause the project to be a complete failure as a decent hydrocarbon accumulation or a " Close but no Cigar , technical success and Commercial failure ."
The test that oil companies use is the risked value of the prospect that trades off the geological and commercial risks against the range of likely values if a success .
For oil prospects , size does matter .
