Sure the share price will shoot up, but I think the theory goes something like;
1) Short 50,000,000 and suppress the share price.
2) Because of artificially low price, make an ambitious takeover offer of 60c.
3) Lose heaps on the 50,000,000 as the share price shoots up to 60c.
4) people that matter (substantials and management) reject and laugh at the 60c
5) with 60c as a new base, 50,000,000 need to be bought back pushing price to 70c
