keating has no real expertise in economics and commerce (apart from managing a garage band in the 70s). His instincts were to upset the status quo and appeal to the masses who love a larrikin with a sense of humour. Whatever success he had was derived from doing most of what the rationalists in his dept called for. So much the better if this mean't upsetting the conservative establishment.
I heard his interview with Mike Carlton this morning. Carlton loves Keating because they are of similar head-kicking bent. keating basically said the success of the economy even now was entirely due to him. Gosh what an ego.
He also called foran increase in the super levy. Terrific--more money for instos to splurge on the asx
