This is the most subtle form of price manipulation lol - they might have 1M shares and if there is a gap in the price (take KCG for example) this monring buy was 8.4c and sell was 9c - now if someone had lots of shares and wanted to influence the chart they would try on the close to sell 1 share at 8.4c otherwise if the last trade was 9c it might appear up.
There is no limit on the amount of shares that can be sold - a $500 minimum on any buy order on any stock you dont own but if you own 1 stock you can buy another share say at 9c but you pay $30 odd brokerage or more depending on who you trade with.
Its price suppression at its best.
