OSHD were in there and did an inspection and were happy with the level of safety. The pit would have been designed by qualified mining engineers. Yes they have had wall failures. They have stated that operations have been difficult. Obviously mining in the high rainfall areas brings another level to contend with. Perhaps if they designed the pit to be 100% sure that a pit wall failure could never happen they wouldn't be mining at all. When you look at these big holes in the ground at mines it does look dangerous. They can't make them flat. Could have should have would have.
