I have been investing for over 35 years and have noticed that when a stock is taking off due to good news, there is a period of time before the deal is sealed when all sorts of people come out of the woodwork and try to "catch the last ride upwards". Frequently, they file lawsuits claiming that they are the actual inventors of a technology or that they have a contract that calls for ownership of some percentage of the company.

Sometimes, they put out a flurry of negative attacks in hopes of forcing the price down so they can enter the market at the last minute at a discount or by using options.

In the USA, this is called "Greenmail" (take-off on Blackmail). If the claims are at all valid, or if the litigation will take a long time, there is usually some payoff to the greenmailers to go away, thus making greenmail profitable.

In order to get the deal done, sometimes a few percent of the deal price is escrowed to pay off these nuisance lawsuits.

My experience says that no one fights over a worthless property, so the "fight" signifies latent value.

Just some random thoughts. I am buying more at these reduced prices.
