Just to add toward my old comment, BHP are the type to drill 3 holes generated from an EM survey or large conductor, not hit anything substantial enough to warrant a mine and therefore bail.
(pretty sure even EXU's Tampia deposit was founded by BHP or one of the majors, being open at surface and they STILL left it behind when farming negotiations came knocking. Fast forward a decade or two with POG and modern exploration/further exploration, a junior transitioned it well for a steal takeover price from RMS)
