RBA is now going to investigate whether policy action is needed to stop BNPL operators from preventing shops passing on costs to customers. With credit cards they can’t prevent it, which is why you often have a % added when you use a credit card. Obviously BNPL operators don’t want that. Once the dust settles though, I can’t see it will stop the growth. People will still want the deferred payments and you can’t get that with a debit card or cash. Will make it a bit more expensive to use.

however it will cause a bit of volatility and price reduction until it is finished, just like the Senate enquiry did. Probably take a year as well.
