The process of getting a poster accepted to the ASCO conference includes peer reviewing.
So, the journal publishes the abstracts on that basis.
It's really a formal validation of the conference proceedings.
So, it counts, but not as highly as a free standing paper.
Please remember, the PANCO study isn't finished, so it can't be formally submitted for publication. The study finishes at 24 months after the last patient is enrolled. At that point, I expect papers will be written and submitted for publication.
