Just the fact that a great diversity of nations participate is a huge positive. Far from promoting nationalism it promotes through sport respect and breaks down barriers. The fact that even very small countries can participate and lift awareness of their people globally is a good thing. To close the doors and not participate is likely to cause more nationalistic tendencies. Sport is a healthy outlet at all levels.
