it may be that the device did indeed function perfectly, but that this guy was too far gone to help. Someone posted on here before that this patient was unconscious prior to the operation. If that is the case, it is amazing he lasted this long. So who knows, he may well have succumbed to cardiac failure anyway. Who knows what other comorbidities this guy had? These patients are knocking on heaven's door. Ethics committees won't let patients treatable by conventional medical therapy become guinea pigs. Remember it is an "assist" device, not a new heart.
