JH If it looks, waddles, quacks and lays eggs like a duck, it probably is a duck, rather than a tennis ball or a custard tart. Why and how it looks and acts the way it does is a mystery to me, but doesn't change the FACT that it is a duck. The title of the thread is not 'how was it accomplished', it was 'the reasons to doubt'. You been given them fairly conclusively, so it's up to you to decide, rather than ridicule. And if it was thermite assisted, your side of the argument has already pointed out how complex an operation it would be to use it, so how could you expect anyone on HC to give you an adequate answer.
And as for the emotional bit ... words escape me.
