In actual fact, there are a few who are in the process of setting up High Purity Alumina (HPA) plants using kaolin as feedstock. HPA is used in LED lights but increasingly as a separator coating for lithium batteries. Some good $ in HPA and predicted shortages of supply. So it may be this is another battery play.
