Tassie continues to heat up: KUTh

    Wednesday, 13 August 2008

KUTH Energy says further equilibrated heat flow results from its Tasmanian geothermal tenement, SEL26/2005, continue to affirm a strong heat flow anomaly in eastern Tasmania.

The company said lower heat flow values to the south and west appear to be defining the edge of a large heat flow anomaly distributed across 14,000 square kilometres of tenements under exploration.

According to the results, the Kingston and Fingal holes continue the high regional near-surface heat flow values established previously, recording surface heat flow of 70 and 86 milliwatts (mW) per square metre.

Heat flows from the Woodsadale and Tiberias holes of 73 and 81mW/sq.m are consentient with KUTh’s model of hot granite distribution, the company said.

The company also said the Tiberias hole, west to where the granites are interpreted to be shallow enough to be of interest, had a poor model fit and showed evidence of water circulation behind the hole casing.

“These results continue to affirm the presence of a significant heat flow anomaly in eastern Tasmania comparable to that published from the Cooper Basin,” the company said.

Previous equilibrated surface heat flow values from four drillholes in SEL26/2005 have fallen within the top 17% of heat flow values recorded for Australia, according to the company.

KUTh Energy has more than 14,000sq.km of Tasmanian acreage, which it is actively exploring for geothermal energy generation and for direct use heating and drying applications.
