I agree to the extent that Andrew Bolt has made his opinion quite clear and he is very negative about the Prime Minister. However, I don't know if I would have taken it a step further and said he is just negative about anything to do with the Labor Party. He usually states his case and puts forward a reason for that point of view.
As for the polls being an indication of how the country is thinking, it really depends on how the questions are put to the participants. The options available at the time will dictate popularity. John Howard enjoyed the various levels of popularity and it could be said that his opposition contributed to his popularity more so than his own personal characteristics.
The fact that the Polls are currently giving PM Rudd a lead over the opposition leader is to be expected so soon after a change of power.
Anyone that thinks a political party that gets voted out of power should then turn around and pop up the next week "ship shape and shoes shining" is living outside the bounds of reality.
The actual and the perceived disarray in Liberal Party is to be expected. That's why it is the PM's honeymoon period.
I still believe that the cartoonists do herald the mood of the wider community and it is there that the Prime Minister is slowly loosing credibility.
