CFD's don't have the advantage of the uneven decay in value but options usually have a worse spread. I have played with a strategy where I take a long term position with futures and bet in the other direction short term as the market moves the wrong way. That effectively protects my profits as a move goes against me.
I guess you could describe it as a long term position with short term hedging.
