capman - "the greens are in that awkward position of losing relevance"

the greens are more powerful now as a political force than they ever have been so to suggest they are 'losing relevance' is a little disingenuous. The extent to which the public debate has moved so far could actually been seen as a reflection of their influence.

I agree wholeheartedly that many of them advocate an agenda that can only be described as verging on extreme. If you look at the evolution of the green movement its signficant period of early growth actually conincides with the demise of the communist/socialist party in Aus. You do the math.

My gripe with the greens is that they aren't interested in genuine, triple bottom line sustainability within which trade offs are made at times between the various forms of capital - economic, social, environmental to achieve a sutainable outcome. The terms of the trade between these types of capital is necessarily unprescribed to account for the varying contexts.

The Greens are exclusively interested in preserving environmental captial at the expense of the other two. My only hope is that, as per your forecast, as society becomes more green, the Greens become obsolete and irrelevant.
