Right now China has power shortages, caused at least in part by the mgovernment. Coal prices are up, hard and they have capped the price of electricity. Illegal coal miners are being shut down in droves. The powers that be are finally waking up to the huge death toll amongst miners. It doesnt matter to them if no one is looking, but now they are. Generators are losing money at peak so they just shut down for a while. Supplies are down by a few percent but demand is increasing. You cant have a smelter suddenly shut down mid smelt for obvious reasons, so you shut it down in the times of day you fear blackouts.
Mineral smelters-big users of coal and electricity, have been hit. So just now they have cut back operations and buying. China has had a series of these,if you Google "power shortage China" you'll soon see. The Wall Street Journal has published an article on it today.
This too will pass. Probably start to after the Olympics. That part of China has been prioritised so the lights dont go out on all the tourists and foreign media the regime so wants to impress.
