You've mentioned this battery requirement before being Ni in UPS's, but I let it go....Now your on about hundreds of kg's of them being installed.....In all my time working on installations up to 50MW generated power the only Ni batteries I've seen used are piddly Ni-MH used for memory in CB's and PLC etc. HV DC power has always been 110V not 48, in fact I can't remember ever seeing 48VDC used anywhere. All the UPS's from 500VA to 200KVA I've worked on have been sealed lead acid, and that includes vessels only 18 months old.
