Been doing a bit more thinking, uh oh... but looking at global grades. Some of the highest copper grades in the world are close to Nifty at De Grassi, and it looks like Rio has got high grades in large quantities at their new find to the North East in Patterson province. The grades in Congo hang around 3% but it is starting to look like the Patterson province around Nifty is hoisting some of the largest of the rare high grade copper deposits in the world. That is no doubt why Rio is trying to get as much exploration acreage as possible, including recently and rapidly around Nifty area. This mining area is far, far better on so many aspects other than grade, such as low sovereign risk, infrastructure nearby like Port Hedland, roads, huge gas offshore, power available,no jungles, huge haulage distances through bad places, or mountains to cope with than Africa. But quite a few cyclones in the season along the coast, as we know.
Nifty's grades are not record, but the ones around the new edge drilling are high at average 2.4% which is looking like being up in the top 5 or 10% worldwide.
A fault line hosting the deposits runs right through the MLX exploration acreage and a series if initial testing holes are being drilled at half a dozen indicated locations along the lines this quarter I recall? The odds are not all that bad of something really significant turning up or even, yes, a behemoth. It has to be the some of best acreage in the world for exploration mineral drilling. And there is quite a bit of gold about too. Newcrest's Kidston is only a horse ride away.
A large world scale high grade open cut copper mine such as may soon be found and developed in this area is about as good as it gets in copper or copper gold mining, from what this geography buff observer can work out.
