    You really have no idea. The majority of Syrians never supported Assad. Nothing to do with external players. Assad is an Alawite which is a minority in Syria. He combined with some other minorities such as Shia and Druze to rule. However the vast majority of Syrians including the Kurds are Sunni. That is why so many supported ISIS and why Sunni majority will never want Assad. Its also why Assad does not want the over 3 million refugees in Turkey to return. They are mostly Sunnis.

    Like Africa a lot of the borders in the middle east were drawn back in the day by colonial powers without regard for local hegemony. Its partly why Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Algeria, Yemen have had so much bloodshed. Indeed the only Arab countries that "succeed" are some of the gulf ones. However they are not countries with diverse populations. Instead they are ruled by monarchist families, the heads of the tribes from centuries ago.
