That's the problem: "putting your life savings in" that is what happened with investors in so many companies. BlueSky Alternatives is a good example of people loosing everything (according to the plaintiff it was sold through phone call investment scammers).
If you can find one great share there will be another great share that you can also find. There is no need to amplify risk. If you hire a financial adviser then you are betting on that one adviser and paying fees. If you keep investments even then the losses can't overwhelm the gains (or not as much).
