SPX had to lodge their reply by 11th. If VMC amended and lodged their claim on 11th within the last hour or two that the Court was open, SPX would not have had a chance to address those extra claims/amendments by the time they lodged on 11th. (My reading of SPX' statement). It's not really a question of meeting a time limit - VMC filed extra material at the last minute on 11th which gave SPX no chance to answer within the time frame available to them on 11th - IMO.
