PJ, not only am I not Warren Buffett, I'm also not an accountant, so I can't speak too much about tax stuff, but as I understand it the losses incurred increase the value of the pre-tax NTA to the post-tax levels, and represent a tax deductibility that can be invoked to reduce the tax obligation when the fund returns to profitability. Other than this I'm not sure how it would benefit shareholders, or how it all extrapolates to the collection of franking credits and other secret accountants' business.
