Oooooo that would make some sense. There are about 20M shorts that have been held for a very long time that came in at below $10. I had always thought that they were some kind of hedge against a massive correction, but maybe you are right.
The Insto's could keep the loaned shares on their books at the value they loaned them at, rather than their market value, meaning they would never lose value whilst in the shorters hands...... Nasty.
Works the other way as well. As soon as the price goes above their book value the insto's want the share back, but the shorter if they haven't covered, want to keep them until they do cover and pays a fee to keep them. If the shorter has covered and is being paid by the insto to hold them, then the shares are returned and everyone is happy.....Equally nasty.
Problem with A2 is as at 13/11/2019 there were 56M short positions, this had increased leading up to the 13th, these have not yet been covered......something has to break soon
