How would you improve the Australian tax system?, page-76

As far as i see it Australia has 3 choices

1) Slash expenditure, close to impossible with a strongly growing population (new roads, hospitals, schools etc)
2) Raise tax 'revenue' through increased rates or new taxes (from whatever source).
3) Increase tax 'revenue' faster than expediture through growth ( ie grow the economy without relying on an increasing population).

I.m not sure any of the politicians have the stomach, will or ability to do any of those choices.
