To be fair if I remember she was a trouble child, there comes a point to every parent tasked with such children when they can no longer believe anything the child says ...and for good repeatable reasons usually.
I expect all round the household was not a particularly high functioning one but a proper trouble child adds whole extra level of dysfunction to the mux.
