Interesting night on the markets. 14,000 tonnes have been dropped on the LME. Thats a big chuck but it has happened before and it disappeared pretty quickly. LME hasnt updated for a couple of days but it will interesting to see if it goes into live warrants.
Palladium spiked to $1800 (nearly 2800 AUD) The palladium deficit is not going away even though car sales are down significantly around the world. Citibank is bullish for next year -:
Citigroup Inc (NYSE. sees palladium prices jumping to $2,500 by mid-2020 because of a persistent supply deficit. There are no signs of substitution with cheaper platinum or significant amounts of scrap metal coming to market, the bank said.
JP mentioned the possibility for some small scale mining of the shallow deposits. If Pd shoots above $3000 AUD per oz then that would make this a very attractive option. A quick rough calc on the beer coaster would suggest around 100,000 oz of Pd exist near the surface.
That would pay for the Xmas party next year.
