This is fine in theroy but the damage being done is irreversibly not to mention the huge cost and the livelihood of the people who are suffering, plus the loss of manufacturing and industry, the cost is far to high and all this is based on theroy and guesses by "some" scientists, in history scientists have been wrong as much as they are right and it is not their head in the noose bu to other people. We have costs either way we look at the climate change issue, but climate modelling is becoming much more accurate, so certainty in projections suggests we cannot avoid biting the bullet re climate change mitigation. But we have in essence run out of time as the arctic tundra will have melted in 2 decades and the release of a huge quantity of methane means we may have lost the ability to do anything about a runaway climate after 2040. The problems of the Murray / Darling as far as I cam see are mostly man made problems by stupid burocrats, the system has always been one where even back in the paddle wheel steamer days, ships would be grounded if they did not do the turn around quickly enough. Then you have those bright P/S people who to make an extra buck sold more water rights than the system could supply, and they are still doing it. The Murray Darling agricultural/horticultural region is nowadays a 30 billion economy that supports a couple o fmillion directly or indirectly. But it has expanded to the point where droughts mean people will lose irrigation water as many farmers buy from the temporary water market. A man in Shepparton ripped out about 30 acres of cherries a year ago as the water costs tripled over a couple of years. People arrived to pick cherries providing a tourist attraction,but the owner is gone and tourists are spending less in the region. Water from the north is an absolute necessity, and if we had a strong decisive politician telling the Aboriginals that it is not their water but belongs to the country it would achieve the required result IMO the Ord reservoir has enough water available to be piped to the area between Alice Springs and Tennant Creek to create a second Murray Darling region with easy rail and road access to Darwin for export of produce. Soils are good and that area would benefit from a greener, cooler environment as well as a big boost to the economy and jobs. As with the M/D river system most of the problems with nuclear have been made by stupid planning of bureaucrats. Although nuclear in Australia has a bad name, Australians have worked in the nuclear field for a long time. It’s a no-brainer for us to have nuclear power. We have places with stable geology, the uranium and the ability to create a waste burning industry as 4th generation reactors can burn up waste fuel .from old plants. So IMHO as we have shot ourselves in the foot by blowing up our cheap efficient coal power plants we will be forced into nuclear as it is the only alternative for the majority of our power needs. Given the degree of urgency re stabilizing CO2 emissions, all sources of green energy generation need to be utilized and that includes nuclear.
